Old Dominion University, in partnership with Reed Integration, Inc., presents a certificate program in project management. Project Management and the PMP credential are one of the hottest credentials in North America today. This certificate develops skills that apply to any size project, IT projects, product design and development and many other efforts with definitive performance, time and funding targets. All training is results oriented and focuses on practical, on-the-job applications.

1. Fundamentals of Project Management
  • Define the basic terminology of project management.
  • Identify the project management life cycle.
  • Understand the project management knowledge areas.
  • Develop a project plan.
  • Build an effective WBS and project schedule
  • Identify project stakeholders and their information needs.
  • Identify, analyze, respond, and manage risks to closure.
  • Identify elements influencing project monitoring and control.
  • Manage project change through formal change control
2. Project Monitoring and Control
  • Apply earned value (EV) metrics for project monitoring and controlling.
  • Select and justify the appropriate EV measurement methods.
  • Create a project schedule for tracking EV performance.
  • Compute cost and schedule variances
  • Establish well-reasoned decisions by analyzing EV.
  • Employ several methods for forecasting cost.
  • Recognize the advantages and limitations of EV
  • Synchronize EV data with scheduling techniques (crashing and fast tracking) to attain the appropriate corrective action.
3. Leadership and Teambuilding Skills for Project Managers
  • Understand and identify key concepts in Management, Leadership, and Team building.
  • Conflict management and resolution.
4. Project and Systems Integration
Participants learn how people, processes, tools, and systems are brought together in harmonious interoperation so as to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness. The methods included are:
  • Systems, projects, and management.
  • Making tradeoffs among competing objectives / alternatives.
  • Integrated change control.
5. Applying the PMBOK - Capstone Course
Participants implement skills learned throughout the program courses, and prepare to pass the PMP© Examination. At the end of this course students will be able to:
  • Evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in applications of advanced PMBOK topics and concepts.
  • Assess how prepared they are to take and pass the PMP® Examination.

Lean Project Management
Participants learn methods to enable dramatic reductions in project cycle time while maintaining effective control over budget, resources, risk, and delivered value.
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate projects.

  • Recover substantial time due to inefficient project scheduling of projects and resources.

Advanced Risk Management

To withdraw from a course you must send a request in writing to pdc@odu.edu or fax to (757) 683-5509 one business day prior to the start date of the course. Failure to attend a course does not constitute withdrawal. Course registration fees, less a $75 processing fee will be refunded via check per Old Dominion University policy(we are unable to return money to a debit or credit card).
